As I write this month’s “Checking In,” I see snow out my window. While Mother Nature may think she can fool us into believing it’s still winter in mid-April, we know better. It’s time for spring! Women magazine has dedicated this issue to spring fashion, health and beauty. alt

As we slowly shed our layers, our closet suggests it’s time to freshen up our wardrobe. Our spring guide showcases some fabulous finds that scream of spring, even if the weather doesn’t. Shoe lovers – check out our Body section with colorful flats and neutral must-haves.

Our cover woman, Aymee Balison, has her children’s boutique stocked for spring. Discover her reason for opening Sweetpea’s in De Pere more than 10 years ago and how she finds fulfillment through volunteering.

When it comes to health, it’s easy to get confused what you should and shouldn’t do. I’ve heard countless women talking about eliminating gluten from their diet. Writer Lauren Muench shares who is going gluten-free and why. Then flip to our other health and beauty stories – health trends from head-to-toe and anti-aging diet advice.

Every spring, I remind myself to keep my eyes wide open in hopes of catching the moment the buds form on the trees or the grass turns from brown to green. If you’ve ever tried this, you’ll discover it happens in a blink of the eye. Or overnight. Or the day I forget to pause a second among the chaos and look around me. I’ve never been able to pinpoint the exact day spring truly arrives.alt

When the season does finally make its presence known, it almost shouts, “Here I am.” Windows are opened, sweaters are tossed aside and we embrace the warmth we’ve greatly missed. While we welcome the opportunity to shed a few layers, we discover our skin needs refreshing and our wardrobe requires updating.

This issue of Women has all you need to get yourself ready for spring. Local skin experts share how to start the season with beautiful – although probably quite pale – skin, and area retailers show off the hottest fashions.

Our cover woman, Sandy Martin, knows all about the latest looks. As co-owner of green 3 in Oshkosh, Martin has made it her mission to provide ladies with hip apparel that is also environmentally aware.

Just as green 3 focuses on conservation, we can all do our part to reduce waste. Writer Sarah Wallenfang shares how each of us can make a difference, starting at home.

Here’s to spring!

After writing hundreds of articles over the years, many times the common, seasonal topics or the stories with little heart leave my memory the moment I hit “send,” but pieces from each touching or inspirational tale have stuck with me.

It was a pleasure pulling together this month’s issue of Women because I found a reoccurring theme among our stories. In nearly every article you’re encouraged to take notice of what’s around you and to attempt to make improvements, whether that’s in your home, in your beauty routine or in your closet.alt

Our cover woman, Tracy Arndt, saw a community need 25 years ago and was moved to use her talents to better the community. While her beloved Big Event for Little Kids day is coming up on April 6, she does so much more to make an impact on the lives of area children.

As spring approaches we are all anxious to make a fresh start. Area businesses offered their words of wisdom for home improvements big and small. Lucky 13-year-old Jessie Trembly shares her beautiful bedroom update in this month's My Favorite Room feature.

Just looking to freshen up your wardrobe this season? Alyssa Volkman explains how to mix it up with prints and patterns.

Finally, if you are just hoping to flip through the pages of Women magazine to learn something new, we have all you need to know to order wine like a pro. Cheers!

Happy reading!
