This month Women magazine visits Green Bay's Broadway for its Women Who Inspire feature. The business owners and employees on this street give the business district an exciting vibe. Here is what Holly Hebel of Whitedog Roadhouse Black Cat Cafe has to say: What made you choose Broadway? I like being along the river in a historical district. What do you like about being on Broadway? I enjoy being on Broadway because it reminds me of a small, close-knit town. What do you enjoy about being a business owner? I enjoy the challenges presented to me every day. What advice do you have for other women who are looking into business ownership? One of the best pieces of advice that I can offer would be to use all of the resources that your community has to offer. Look for guidance in other women business owners. Also, remember marketing is key. 02/25/10
This month Women magazine visits Green Bay's Broadway for its Women Who Inspire feature. The business owners and employees on this street give the business district its distinct style. Here's what Megan Melendy of Besselli had to say: What do you like about being on Broadway? The thing I like most about having our business on Broadway is the atmosphere. What do you enjoy about being a business owner? Being a business owner has been a learning experience, but I must say I enjoy the fact that I am able to make my store my own. What have you been doing to make it in this economy? The one thing we focus on at Besselli is customer service. I strongly believe that if you are working hard and making your customers feel welcome they are going to want to come back and visit. What advice do you have for women looking into business ownership? My advice to any other woman out there who is thinking about owning a business is: Go for it! 02/22/10
Gina Nytes, Kaukauna branch manager for Citizens Bank, brings us this week's financial tip: A budget may not seem like something that is necessary for most families. When it comes to supporting a family, there is nothing more important than creating a family budget that not only everyone can live off of and that is truly beneficial to the financial security of the family. By preparing a workable budget you know exactly where your money is going and you can plan for emergencies. A true budget allows for the things that are important to you, including entertainment expenses and the occasional shopping spree. Even though you might want to give your family everything that they need and want, most people’s budgets are limited. Preparing a workable budget allows you to stay within your means to follow your plan. The financial future of your family depends on the actions that you take now. Here are some helpful tips to get you started: • Think about all of the unnecessary spending that happens on a daily basis in your household. Most of the time people do not really understand the amount of money that they are spending on items like fast food, expensive coffee or snacks at the gas station. These are items that a person can go without. Cutting these expenses will help you save money. 02/20/10
In order to promote the benefits of chiropractic care, the Women Who Inspire blog honors area chiropractors in their efforts and achievements toward overall better health. Today we present Dr. Stephanie Krueger, D.C.: What made you become a chiropractor? I decided to become a chiropractor at a fairly young age. What is the best part of your job? I love being a chiropractor; I particularly enjoy it when my patients tell me what wonderful results they have gotten from my treatments. Who wouldn't like getting their ego stroked? In a few sentences, describe how you can help people feel better. Chiropractic is a natural form of health care that works great for musculoskeletal problems. Where do you see your profession heading? In today’s economic climate and health care reform considerations, the chiropractic profession is going to grow as people start taking control of their own health needs. 02/18/10
Women magainze's Women Who Inspire feature shares the stories of local chiropractors and their efforts in helping people live long and health lives. Today we present Dr. Marilyn R. Dragosh, D.C.: What made you become a chiropractor? My father was a chiropractor; I grew up watching people come to see my dad. What is the best part of your job? Watching people return to “normal.” Helping them learn the skills and give them the tools that they need to stay healthy. What advice do you have for people interested in the profession? You must honestly want to help others. You need to be a good listener. What is the most interesting case you've worked on? The cases over the past 30-plus years are so diverse. How have you seen the profession change? I have been a chiropractor for more than 30 years. I was the first woman to be elected and to serve as president of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association. 02/17/10
Women magazine's Women Who Inspire feature promotes the positive benefits of chiropractic care. The Women Who Inspire feature has taken the opportunity to share the amazing benefits local chiropractors can provide for those suffering from aches and pains. Today we present Dr. Kimberly Johnson: What is the best part of your job? Being able to help people live the life they want through better health. Do you have tips for people who want to get rid of aches and pains? Start a stretching program. Where do you see your profession heading? I only see positive things for our profession in the future. How can you help people feel better? The word chiropractic literally translates to “done by hand.” Through gentle manipulation of the spine either performed by hand or a small instrument, I apply a controlled force to the joints that help to restore spinal movement. The result is a decrease in pain and improvement in mobility. We help the patients make better choices through talking about their diet, recommending stretches and exercises, and maintaining proper health by aligning the spine. 02/16/10
Women's magazine praises the hard work and dedication of chiropractic care. Through its Women Who Inspire feature, Women magazine is able to highlight the efforts of local chiropractors. Today we present Dr. Meggan Tank, D.C.: What made you become a chiropractor? I became a chiropractor because chiropractic helped me significantly throughout my childhood. What is the best part of your job? The best part of my job is to be able to interact with patients everyday and see the improvements in their quality of life. What advice do you have for people interested in the profession? I would advise anyone interested in becoming a chiropractor to pursue their dreams and attend chiropractic college. 02/15/10
Gina Nytes, Kaukauna branch manager for Citizens Bank, brings us this week's financial tip: Financial planning can be fun and rewarding. When children learn how to be financially responsible at a young age, they are more likely to grow up being less dependent on others for funds. Children can learn a great deal if you, as parents, provide insight on budgeting. So why not take advantage of every day money lessons to help your children build a foundation for good financial habits. Women's magazine would like to show all of you the efforts and successes of chiropractors around the area through the Women Who Inspire feature. Today we present Dr. Krhisti Otto and Dr. Aprill Rykal: Khristi: What made you become a chiropractor? I followed my parents’ path, as they are both chiropractors, as are my brother and sister and 38 other uncles and cousins. If you could change one thing about your job, what would it be? To have the opportunity to see more patients before back surgery, rather than after. What is the best part of your job? There are too many to list. I enjoy empowering patients to make a choice regarding their health. I feel like a proud parent when a patient can take the information we give them and make an informed decision on what's best for their individual needs. Aprill: If you could change one thing about your job, what would it be? That more parents would seek chiropractic care for their children. Do you feel chiropractors get the respect they deserve? I feel that respect has to be earned, regardless of your profession or your title. Where do you see your profession heading? Definitely up. More people are searching for a different form of health care that sees them as a whole person, rather than just broken pieces and parts. 02/14/10

Women magazine hopes to express its appreciation for the hard work of area chiropractors through its Women Who Inspire feature. Today we present Dr. Laura Kemps: What made you become a chiropractor? After gaining experience in the medical field, I knew that was the field for me but did not know which profession to choose. What is the best part of your job? Chiropractors use a unique set of skills to help unlock a person's healing potential. It is very rewarding to be able to facilitate the healing process naturally through the use of my hands and my knowledge of the human body. How do you help people feel better? I use various tools to help people. The most important (and in my opinion, most powerful) tool is chiropractic manipulation. Do you feel chiropractors get the respect they deserve? It is up to the chiropractic profession to educate both the public and traditional medicine on the benefits of chiropractic care. Our friends at Unity Hospice share a message about the traveling display "Portraits of Hope" to create awareness of Hospice Care and to give hope this February. For the last several months, a unique display created by the Hospice Organization and Palliative Experts (HOPE) of Wisconsin, a statewide organization that provides education, legislative influence and partnership opportunities to individuals and organizations involved with end-of-life care, has been touring throughout the Green Bay area, raising awareness about hospice care. “Portraits of HOPE,” the traveling display, was created in 2007 upon the 30th anniversary of hospice’s beginnings in Wisconsin to help put a face on hospice care. Hospices throughout the state submitted photographs along with comments from patients, families, staff and volunteers. What does “hope” look like? “Portraits of HOPE,” now on display through the third week of February at East Town Mall in Green Bay, best depicts “hope” in photos, but the words captured within the display can help paint a picture in print. Joy Ride: “In the last 21 months, Dorothy has ridden a motorcycle, traveled to California to watch her daughters race in the LA marathon and prepares meals for the staff at the center.” Gifts for the Journey: “John lives in his house with his dog, Diller. Even with congestive heart failure, he has remained very independent with the help of hospice and his caregiver, Barb. John enjoys playing cribbage, coin collecting and riding about town on his motorized scooter!” Hospice is Dorothy. Hospice is John. Hospice is “hope.” 02/01/10
